Subject Ischemic Optic Neuropathy; Sildenafil; Erectile Dysfunction; Amiodarone
Description The erectile dysfunction (ED) drugs, sildenafil, tadalafil and vardenafil, are selective inhibitors of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP)-specific phosphodiesterase (PDE) type 5, an enzyme present in vascular smooth muscle. Through this mechanism, the ED drugs potentiate the nitric oxide-cGMP pathway that mediates corpus cavernosum smooth muscle relaxation, leading to improvement in penile blood flow and erectile function.
