Spencer S. Eccles Health Sciences Library Main Level

To find funding when money was scarce, Library Director Priscilla M. Mayden worked with Dean Kenneth Castleton to secure private and federal funding to start the project. Following up on a golf course conversation that Dr Castleton had had with his friend and prominent Salt Lake banker, Spencer S. Eccles, Castleton, along with Utah businessman Reed Brinton, made a house call to Eccles. As a result, Mr Eccles and his family carried the library to the finish line with a $250,000 donation. Ground was broken for the new library on November 25,1969. On October 4, 1971, the Spencer S. Eccles Health Sciences Library was dedicated.
