This photograph is a copy of the original and is in fairly good condition. On the back of the photo, inscribed in pen, is: "Joseph N. Uemura," "Joseph N. Uemura," "1956-1957". There is also a yellow adhesive brushed onto the back of the photograph. Uemura served as the Acting Dean of Westminster College from 1956 to 1957, upon the resignation of Warren O. Watkins. He was born on July 3, 1926, in Portland, Oregon. He received an A.B. from the University of Denver, a Th.M from the Iliff School of Theology, conducted graduate work towards a Th. D. at the School of Theology in Denver, CO, and received a Ph.D. from Columbia University. Before he served as the Acting Dean, Uemura was the assistant pastor at two Methodist churches and then spent four years as Professor of Bible, Philosophy, and Religion at Westminster College. When his contract as Acting Dean was over, he continued to serve in the teaching capacity. He officially resigned in April of 1959. |
