Show A group photograph consisting of what is presumed to be the 4th annual gathering of leaders of the Young People's Society of Christian Endeavor that is formatted on a black mat. The group is made up of mostly older to elderly people. A few children are in the very front. The group is standing and looking at the camera. They are wearing Sunday dress and a few men and women have their heads covered. Most of the group is in dark clothing. A few are wearing lighter color outfits but they are few in number. The hall they are gathered in is draped with American flags along the back wall, side wall and the niche with a string banner which reads, "For Christ And The Church" strung across the hall with American flags attached to either end. At the very back in the center of the wall is a niche that has posted in large letters, "4th Annual Convention Y.P.S.C.E. Utah 1892." There are no imposed markings on this photograph on the front or the back sides. The only marking that is not part of the photograph is the golden stamped insignia of "Newcomb 162S. Main St Salt Lake City, Utah" running vertically along the black mat on the front right side. The condition of the photograph is poor. The black mat the photograph is attached to is warped and the edges nicked in a few places with the nick at the top right hand corner being the most noticeable. The edges are also worn. The photograph also is impaired at the top left hand corner where a piece has either been torn away or worn away. This photograph is a mystery as to its purpose and origin. Judging by the appearance of the hall it is for the convention of the Young People's Society of Christian Endeavor, but there are only a few young people in the photograph. This would lead to the conclusion that it is a convention for the leaders. However, this poses another question; why are their elderly folks in the |
