Show Photograph of the semi-completed outdoor Salina E. Malmsten Amphitheatre located southwest of the Giovale Library. The angle of this photo is taken from the stage looking out towards the rising tiers of railroad tie seats. The shape of the theater is semi-oval and surrounded by a grove of trees. A woman and two men are conversing at the third seat from the bottom. The woman sits on the tier, one man stands upright on the tier below were the woman sits, and the other man is stands next to him with one leg placed upon the same tier the woman sits upon. Visible in the distant horizon, over the top of the hill, are the turrets of Converse Hall. Sunlight illuminates half of the theater while the grove of trees blankets the other half with shade. Judging by the unevenness of the ground at the foot of each tier and the pile of railroad ties located on the left side near the top of the hill, the theater may still be in the process of completion. |
Further Information |
The photograph is in fair condition because it bares severe signs of handling wear. Folds and creases are apparent on both the glossy front side and back side of the photograph. The edges are nicked or torn. The corners are creased and staple holes are visible at the top right corner. The only handwritten remark on the photo is the one written on a separate adhesive paper attached along the bottom border. Written is, "Ampitheater [sic] - July 1971." The Malmsten Amphitheater was completed in July 1973 and subsequently dedicated on July 27, 1973. The theater serves as an outdoor venue for plays, concerts, and rally functions. It is located southwest of the Giovale Library adjacent to Emigration Creek. Other information about the Salina E. Malmsten Amphitheatre can be found in: Brackenridge, R. Douglas.
