Address: 331 East South Temple, Salt Lake City. The property was purchased by the Roman Catholic Church in 1890, and the cathedral constructed from 1900 to 1909. It replaced the nearby Saint Mary Magdalene Church, the first Catholic church in Utah, built in 1871. Dedicated as the Cathedral of Saint Mary Magdalene, it was renamed the Cathedral of the Madeleine, in 1916. The exterior of the building was restored in the 1970s, and the interior was renovated and restored between 1991 and 1993,. |
