Description |
Address: 915 West 100 South, Salt Lake City. Originally dedicated in 1904, replacing a ward house sold for a railroad line in 1903. Vacated by the LDS Church before 1987. The church sold the chapel in the late 1960's when the ward was discontinued. For about forty years, the building was used as LA East Studios, a recording studio facility that has been used to record music for hundreds of films including Disney's Lion King, Toy Story, Jurassic Park and Wonder Woman to name a few. B.B. King, Elton John, and Eminem are just a few of the artists that have recorded in this facility. Universal Music owned LA East Studios but stopped using the building in 2020. In January 2021 The Utah Arts Alliance entered into a contract with the building owner to purchase the building and renamed it the Art Castle. The UAA will use the building as a much needed community gathering space, utilizing the Historic Chapel building for presenting performances, concerts, film screenings, presentations and more. |
