Show • a. Christmas two fcftfttt of stocking-rag-dolls came juet in time to replace some picture books ae g i f t s for the l i t t l e g i r l s of the Bamboo Street Sunday tftBftl and even l i t t l e Chinese g i r l s are happiest of all witli a doll. Some are left for s l i t t l e school at Pai Yueh which I expect to v i s i t and examine soon. The next thing on the programe has been the Poor Commlttee-for t te Chris tmas collection goes to the* poor. So five of us have been meeting in Mrs j£44£ Eastman's parlor and try lag to divide i t where i t would do the most good. It was a good" collection -about t three month's salary for one of the teacher*. I have a class of women gathered for BiWe study, but the ft®at of the work is being carried by the Chinese teachers. Today opens the Week of Prayer, and a noon meeting i s to be held daily. I wonder how many of you will be following the same topics. One woman who lives six miles away and walks in to church every Sunday heard the i noun-cement and said,"I'm coming tomorrow, I'm coming every day I" They are hungry for more than they know. Please pray that this Hew Year shall bring more of God's Truth into their hearts and l i v e s . I keep thinking how Sundry"? to mean a time of study and growth to them-all the church womenC and men too). Please pray too that we may find the leaders and the right olan and the strength to make i t a wonderful day for them. § I have had a number of" t r i p s into the country this f a l l . They are alway Interesting and delightful to me,and I feel rested for the change from the routine at Lintsinb . I t isr lone thing at a tlmeMwhen out inthe country, and Ja^'r here Oh so lajqjrthings , and a l l at once I But I suppose l i f e It „eantto be that way and the wise person is the one who sees the relative importance of this and that and does" the important things or arhaps not that so much es iftlftg t the "small" things in the ri^ht s p i r i t . Now maybe some of you will answer in better theories-I know I like better those you are living out than any I am able to claim. I \. v a new book to read-The Many-sided David, Blanch sent i t for XBase and I'm sure i t is fine. I u ve enjoyed the book called**BY an Unknown Desciple" ttlllBg some of the gospel stories as by one who himself was there and making then vrry vivid and sweet. We read stories too, just now I am reading aloud to Ethel "Shevinacs" by Lincoln. She has been in bed fy with a bad head-ache andcold. I have the Outlook ant. do like i t greatly, and especially Lyman Abbot-(partly because he looks like Papa! )and I think he has the same kind of a wise good heart. One of the Country t r i p s was in the new Lintsina Auto. I mutt say we Jii h i t about as mcnj bu ' .. there were end did soae bouncing I but how we did get there I 'r 'Ersi^n has uaed the auto for a number of country t r i p s and f^e Special ,Te<rtin:;s and fla&a l o t s of encouragement in the s p i r i t of tae aen. Our teache uf joined forces helping each other ho|d classes in the severl f i e l d s . It ladt me glad to see that in the city of Shao Eu ,where we saw so many roofless deserted houses l e s t year, moat had been mended in toe summer and were hoa c.yin, Poor-Oh yes there are so many s t i l l - b u t you have the feeling that the people were at the business of building up wnat tney lost l a s t year. One v i l l L- took a collection and bought fire-qrackers to express their gratitude for help given l a s t year! The? made a "joyful noise" at the Autumn Keeting-I suppose i t was "unto the Lord tho 1 hope other grateful fpt folks will find other ways of expressing their gratitude I Debts s t i l l baftg over their Beads and some have said-, sLast year my l i t t l e boy and &irl were in tho po#r G-arden and had food to eat, but this winter they are at home and even tho we raised a few turnips and had mulberries on the trees this winter there are more of us to eat and i t i s n ' t enough. Some of Ruth's l e f t over funds end others with them she used to begin a school where l i t t l e g i r l s can earn o r t of their expenses and learn how to do ttmetBlmg useful at \ e l l • i now to read. Not that our other school has aimed at less, but this i s especially to help those who are dependent. She and Ethel make a flfta team in the School work and are busy folks indeed. I miss being with the g i r l s , b u t you can't have a l l the good things at once. Even more I ( t miss the work with the Kindergarten children, and when I can have a better jLp£ trained Kindergarten teacher and a place for her to live I shall hope to open i t again. But to open i t now would mean stopping the women!s classes and that can't be thought of. I shall expect to watch Spring coming and workihb h her magic from the inside of a Chinese cart! Won't you join me? For this time-G-ood-by, tho I'm not to the end of the things I ' d like to s |
