Show ' MERCURY HERALD: L ew Self-Help Dormitory for Spartan Athletes Despite the fact that the school's much-publicized "help-the- athlete' policy was abandoned last spring, San Jose State college athletes have not been left entirely to "shift for themselves" it was revealed yesterday. At least 30 athletes will room and work for their "keep" at a large house recently leased by the college physical education department at .JE55 East Reed street, it was disclosed. The structure will be under the supervision of a house manager appointed by the physical education department and will take on the aspect of a "training dormitory" it was learned. A drive has been instigated by ;the patrons' association to obtain furnishings for the structure. No meals will be served at the house. The athletes will, how^ ever, work for their rooming privileges by keeping the structure clean and in good condition. Through Mrs. Leo S. Price, chairman in charge of the project, the patron's association is appealing for rugs, chairs, study lamps, tables, book cases, dressers, mirrors and porch and garden furniture. Those wishing to contribute are requested to call Ballard 1976W. A truck will call for the contributions. The committee from the association will be shown through the house by Coach Dud DeGroot Tuesday afternoon at 2 p. m. |
