Additional Information |
Image was scanned from color slide. Note: Mount Wakakusayama is the grass covered mountain behind Nara Park, located between Todaiji Temple and Kasuga Shrine.--Japan Guide website. Note: Borrowed scenery or borrowed landscape (shakkei,借景) is the method of incorporating a distant vista into the composition of a garden, often seen in traditional Japanese garden design.-- Jaanus on-line Dictionary of Japanese Architectural and Art Historical Terminology. Note: Nara Park (Nara Koen) is a large park in central Nara. Established in 1880, it is the location of many of Nara's main attractions including: Todaiji (Great Eastern Temple), Kasuga Taisha (Kasuga Grand Shrine), Kofukuji Temple and the Nara National Museum. The park is home to hundreds of freely-roaming deer. These deer have become a symbol of the city and have been designated a natural treasure.--Japan Guide website. Note: Nara's new Public Hall is located in Nara Park. Inside the public hall is a Noh theater. |
