Subject Information Technology
Description Instructional Computing Funds Process by Robert Kessler, Student Computing Advisory Committee (SCAC) See the SCAC PPT - proposals are due Feb 15th, 2006 (Information will be sent out shortly.) There are two parts of the program: a Labs program with a $1.3 million budget, and a Faculty program for new computers (this is for academic depts. ~ $120 K budget, which comes from the State). This is a matching program. Every campus college has a SCAC representative assigned to them. The SCA Committee reviews the proposals and allocate funds which are then voted on by ITC. Practical issues: each unit asks for more than previous year, but typically gets the same amount. They are basically working with a fixed budget. Limits: $1250/computer for labs. Faculty can request more for a computer for their own use, but must justify it. 15% of allocation is for maintenance over 3 years. This is fairly flexible in how it's used. PCs in labs have a 3 year lifetime. Most units request about a third of their replacement equipment each year. No more CRTs allowed. Software, printers, wireless (for campus plan), networking equipment and other peripherals ok, but try to do these under maintenance funds. All labs need to be authenticated. No more than 8 pages per proposals. Follow the outline. Get to know your SCAC representative and help them advocate for you.
