| Abstract |
US Army Foot Soldier's postcard from basic training at Camp Wolters, Texas. "November 18, 1944 Dear Mom and Dad,; It is still raining cats and dogs here today, and it don't look like it is going to let up for quite a while. We leave for the "Rat Range" Monday, and boy, I sure hope it quits raining by then... I have a little more money on me than I like to carry, so I am sending $10 home in this letter. Let me know right away if you get it or not... About Christmas presents, here are a few things I could use - a pair of dress gloves, a nice dress scarf, and a tie. That's about all I can think of that I need. I will try and get some presents here in Texas, but I don't know if I will get to town again or not...I was just listening to the news. It said we now have 4 armies in Germany or on German soil. It sounds pretty good to me. How about you....Keep writing as I will get mail. Love, Phil" |
