I'm proud of our student writers and their ability to articulate what they've found most motivating in their classes. I especially love the way the students have chosen to showcase what their favorite teachers have done to motivate them in the classroom. You'll find that the biggest theme in this issue is active learning. Through service learning, technology, or more specific activities, our student writers have explained the great advantages of active learning. Being a big fan of active learning myself, I think it's fantastic that these students have resoundingly decided that active learning is such a great motivator for their learning. I, too, decided to write on it. Other articles in this issue help us, as instructors, to better cope with some of the difficulties that come our way, from tired graduate students, to multi-leveled classrooms, to just pure self-motivation; I hope that this issue will offer you exactly what you need to support you in your role as a teacher.
