Abstract A versatile burner was designed, fabricated and tested. This paper reports the test results for the premixed burner configuration. The premixed burner was tested in Energy and Resources Laboratories' 10 x 10^6 Btu/hr furnace. The results showed that dilution of the premixed gas by air or flue gas could reduce NOx emissions to 12.5 ppm (dry 3% 02), This level of NOx appeared to be a temperature insensitive limit to NOx emission from burners. The measured values were compared with previously estimated values and the paper recommends that kinetic estimates of prompt NOx be re-evaluated.
