Abstract |
New England Power Service Co. (NEPSCo) contracted Riley Stoker to help in evaluating advanced low-NOx, high efficiency oil/gas burners. Baseline pilot-scale tests hav~ been conducted on an 80 x 10^6 Btu/hr burner similar to the 200 x 10 Btu/hr burners currently installed at Salem Harbor Unit 4 and Brayton Point Unit 4. The paper presents the results of the baseline burner pilot-scale combustion tests. Correlation of the baseline burner pilot-scale test results with field test data will be used to evaluate the pilot-scale test performance of the low NOx burners. The paper also presents evaluation criteria used to select burners for atomization testing. An Aerometrics Phase/Doppler particle analyzer was used to characterize atomization quality. A water-glycol solution was used to confirm the effects of viscosity. Based on the results of the atomization tests, two burners have been selected for pilot-scale combustion testing. |
