Midway , Hill broak ranch, 5500 ft. , Wasatch Co. , Utah. On the sixth of May, we lef+ Salt hake City and traveled on Highway 40 +o Heber City , Utah. We-then traveled west te Midway , Utah and then ante the above location at Hill brook ranch. The ranch io located in the Fost hills of the Deer creek mountains. I+ is surrounded by land beth cultivated and uncultiwaled. A large grazing field of weeds and a surrounds the south side of the arm house. A Creek bed that had not yet filled with water from the spring cun off cuns along the east side ct te area. Milk barns , Corrals, and a grainery are. situated immediatly around the ranch house. We baited with cheese, setured with twine, peaces SSCLie Steve \Wlalker \961 placed ten traps in the houses under Cup hoards , around the stove , under piles of stored furniture, along base boards and under neath one corner of the house. We put five traps each ‘in the milk barn and the granery. Inaline along the ditch bank we put seven Traps and we placed three more around a crreular series of gopher burr owings inthe graesy grazing field adjacent +o the main farm house. Ai the same leedlion we walked up through *he foot hells among low Sage brush Carly in the morning . luhile moving through the Sage TL néticed a Sguirrel srthing almost camouflaged In the top of a mediumSized scrub oak brush. 1 was ableto Shoot i+ with a 22 ealiber bullet We then drove westward up DeerCreek Canyon. Along a smal! rauine through the Mourrain filled with rocks, greas wood and scrub oak, we heard Squirrels chattering and were able to obtain three Specimans as they Sturried among the rocks. A+ the same Willbrook ranch location Wwe were able to obtain three more Speci mans +trom our traps in the milk barns. We also ieniqated This day and flooded the qrazing field. Thomomys came Plaod ing out of their burrows. With the aid of the dogs we were able te catch five Specimans. Accounr of Species Peromuseus maniculatus Bam. Wibwaak Karch Single speciman #5 taken from a series of Pius Traps in the corner of the milk barn. The milk barn had a concrete S\eor, Will brook Ranch Three Specimans ) #8 Taken from a series of three traps placed directly in the half. filled grain bins. S peciman 410 taken from a storage house under - iP Steue Walker 1961 neath a pile of Curn tare. Speciman HIE was taken From the Cupboard ot the farmhouse. Mus musculus Single a #3 taken froma Series of three traps in the Kitchen Cupboard of the farm house. Deer Creek road, omic and 3mi S Midway, Utah, Stoo Ht., Wasatch Co., Utah. Single Speciman Hlotaken in asmall ravine Silled wrth scrub oak and mocks. The Speciman was shot With a 22 - Caliber long nfle bullet while Scampering amonget the rocks .
