Show 4 before going to sleep that gives us a renewed sense of well-being. When we r ealize that to our hearts "hozhon nahasdliin" - peace has returned - we give thanks to God and by so doing we give thanks to you, the blessed company of fa ithful people who by your gifts and contributions supply us with the material needs and comforts wh ich give us t he physical fortitude to do our work - God's work - your work - and by your prayers strengthen our souls when in doubt and sustain them in faith. And mindful that prayers are no less a medium of exchange than any other we remember you da ily in our community intercessions. A LL gifts come from God but they are derived through you and are thereby the richer . We at St. Christopher's Mission have come from all parts of the countr y and have left families and friends behind. But we have found a new home and we now have more children to love, tend, scold and worry about than the Old Woman Who Lived in a Shoe! We find too, that we have happily acquired an enormous family numbering several thousands, for it is you who provide us with food, clothing, shelter, light and heat and it is you whom we thank when we give thanks to God for His many blessings. And it is you - our fathers, mothers, brothers and sis ters, to whom we extend our love and our deepest wish for a Blessed and Joyous Christmastide and a Happy and Peaceful New Year. I SAID TO THE MAN WHO STOOD AT THE GATE OF THE YEAR, "GIVE ME LIGHT THAT I MA Y TREAD SAFELY INTO THE UNKNOWN" AND HE REPLIED, "GO OUT INTO THE DARKNESS AND PUT YOUR HAND INTO THE HAND OF GOD. THAT SHALL BE TO YOU BETTER THAN LIGHT AND SAFER THAN' A KNOWN WAY." In order that you may remember us at your altar at Christmas and E piphany, here are our names at the end of the year, 1962: Father Wayne L. Pontious, Vicar Father Harold B. Liebler, Retired Brother Juniper, Oblate OSF Helen Sturges Joan Eskell William Dally Mary Havens Mary Whiting Jo Pontious Alice Pontious Mary Jane Pontious Ann Pontious 5 Thus do we a ll sing the Lord's song in a strange land as did the children of God in Babylon (Psalm cxxxvii ). One good friend tells us that he is sending donations to the Mission instead of Christmas gifts, notifying the recipients and advising them to do the same. Another has funeral r emembrances sent here and we remember the departed and contributors at our alta r. Any Christmas remembran ce that could be shar ed with our people would be most welcome; particularly we invite donations from those who find that their income tax needs adjusting befor e that year-end deadline. We are serving a 3,000 square mile area con taining 2,500 isolated people and we are very short-handed; travel expenses and foodstuffs are most welcome. And here is the news we have all been waiting for: By the Grace of Almighty God THE RIGHT REVEREND RICHARD SIMPSON WATSON, D. D. The Bishop of Utah will ordain to the Sacred Order of Priesthood THE REVEREND WAYNE LORAINNE PONTIOUS on Wednesday the nineteenth day of December Nineteen Hundred and Sixty-two at ten o'clock in the morning St. Mark's Episcopal Cathedral 231 East First South Salt Lake City 11, Utah Your prayers and presence are requested. |
