Title |
Policy options for post-pandemic eviction prevention |
Date |
2023 |
Description |
The federal government and Utah responded quickly to prevent an eviction crisis at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020. The national unemployment rate increased from 4.2% in March 2020 to 14.1% in April 2020 (the largest single-month increase ever) and 23 million jobs were lost by May 2020.1 Workers either lost their jobs or were unable to work due to business closures and work restrictions. Consequently, millions of renters were unable to pay their rent. |
