Description | Almost a century ago a sizeable area of primitive wilderness, essentially undisturbed by white man's exploitations, was set apart as our first national park. The time was 1872 and the place was the renowned Yellowstone wonderland. Through this act by the United States Congress the National Park Service had,. its inception and a new national philosophy had its birth. It may well prove to be one of most, most inspirational and farsighted bits of legislation ever to have been accomplished in our nation's history, for it recognized and established on a national scale the sacred, moral obligation of land stewardskip. |
