Description |
1. The bromo-substituted compounds of ortho-, meta- and para- chlorophenylcarbinol appear to be more active agents for producing sensitization in guinea pigs than are the respective chloro-substituted compounds. 2. The position of the substituted group in this series of compounds appears to have a definite bearing on the production of hypersensitiveness. In general the para-substituted compounds are seemingly the most active in production of cutaneous sensitivity and anaphylactic symptoms. 3. The presence of anaphylactic antibodies was demonstrated in guinea pigs injected with three compounds which were the most irritating; namely, tribromo-methyl-m-chlorophenylcarbinol, trichloromethyl-p-chloro-phenylcarbinol and tribromomethyl-p-chlorophenylcarbinol. One of these compounds, trichloromethyl-p-chloropharylcarbinol, failed to show cutaneous sensitivity. 4. The compounds in oil are bacteridal for E. typhi and bacteriostatic foar Staphylococous aureus. 5. As antiseptics, demonstrated by the agar cup plate method, the bromo-substituted compounds were more effective than the chloro-substituted compounds, the paraoriented compounds being effective in the highest dilutions. |
