The occipital lobesare the termination of the geniculocalcarine pathways and are essential for visual perception and recognition. Each lobe is divided topographically into three areas: the area striata or visual projection cortex (area 17 of Brodmann), the parastriate area (area 17 of Brodmann), and the peristriate area (area 18 of Brodmann). |
