Optic Neuropathy |
Description |
Non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION) is the most common cause of acute optic neuropathy in patients over the age of 50, and yet its exact mechanism of action remains unclear (1). The lamina cribrosa (LC), a structural element of the optic nerve head, may play a role in the underlying pathogenesis of NAION. Additionally, the LC characteristics have been reported to be different relative to healthy controls in different ethnic populations with NAION (2,3). |
