Personal narrative written by Rear Admiral Maxine Conder (1926-2021), who served 28 years in the Navy Nurse Corps after joining as an Ensign in 1951. Rear Admiral Conder was the former Director of the Nurse Corps and the second woman in the Navy to achieve flag rank. Rear Admiral Conder trained as a nurse in the Cadet Nurse Corps, received a nursing diploma from St. Mark's Hospital School of Nursing in Salt Lake City in 1947 and a BSN from the University of Utah in 1960. In June 1988, the University of Utah awarded Admiral Conder an Honorary Doctor of Science Degree. |
