DAY ONE: Senior All-American Grayson Murphy led the Utah track and field team on the first day of the Mt. SAC Relays with a fifth-place finish and a new school record in the 10,000-meter race. Murphy was the top collegiate finisher in the elite race with a time of 33.17.85, which is currently the seventh-fastest time in the country in the event. This time breaks the school record previously held by former Ute Rebekah Winterton by 11 seconds. Murphy holds school records in the outdoor 3,000-meter steeplechase, 5,000-meter, and 10,000-meter races. Also competing with Murphy in the 10,000-meter race was senior Louise Mercer. Mercer finished in 16th place in the second section with a time of 35.29.77. This was Mercer's first ever 10,000-meter race and with this time moved into ninth-place all-time at Utah in the event. Senior Dakota Grossman and freshman Bella Williams competed in the 3,000-meter steeplechase Friday night. Grossman finished in ninth place in the second section with a time of 11:08.50 and Williams placed 13th in the first section with a time of 11:13.94 (compiled section results were not available). With these times, Grossman recorded a new personal best which ranks ninth all-time at Utah while Williams moved into 10th place all-time in the event. |
