DAY ONE: Seniors Alissa Atisme and Louise Mercer highlighted the first day of the MPSF Championships for the Utah track and field team with Atisme breaking her school record in the 60-meter dash and Mercer placing sixth in the 5,000-meter race. In the 60-meter dash, Atisme shined for the Utes as she placed 26th, broke her own school record and recorded a new lifetime best of 7.67. This time tops her previous record by four tenths of a second and moves her into first all-time at Utah in the event. Junior Raynee Helm Wheelock also competed for the Utes and finished in 35th with a time of 7.77. With this time, Wheelock has set a new personal record beating her previous record by a tenth of a second and places her fourth all-time at Utah. In the 5,000-meter event, Mercer crossed the line with a time of 16:36.71 and captured a sixth-place finish to earn Utah three team points. With this time, Mercer recorded a new lifetime best by four seconds and moves her into fourth place all-time at Utah in the event. Moving to the 200-meter race, freshman Jackie Martin led the way for the Utes as she finished in 50th place with new lifetime best of 25.57. This tops her previous record by eight hundredths of a second and moves her into eighth on the all-time top-10 list at Utah. Wheelock also competed in the event for the Utes as she crossed the line in 55th place with a time of 26.16. Closing out the day for the Utes was junior Caitlin Faust, Atisme, senior Grace Englund, and senior Hannah McInturff in the distance medley relay. This DMR squad took home seventh place with a season's best time of 11:35.29. This finish earned Utah two more team points. |
