The Utah Track and Field team closed out competition on day two at the MPSF Championships on Saturday in Seattle, Wash, finishing the conference meet with multiple personal records and solid performances. Two Utes competed in the 800-meter run, led by sophomore Caitlin Faust where she finished in 12th place in a time of 2:11.31, which is a new personal record. Freshman Sarah Newton finished the race with a time of 2:14.55 to record a 24th place finish. In the 3000-meter run, junior Jessica Sams and freshman Poppy Tank finished in 17th and 18th places, respectively. Sams recorded a time of 9:36.81 and Tank followed posting a time of 9:39.88, which were personal bests for each athlete. Sams moved into seventh all-time in the indoor 3000 at Utah, while Tank now holds the ninth-best time. Junior Hannah McInturff finished in 24th place with a time of 9:45.96. Freshman Ann Wingeleth competed in the triple jump for Utah, where she placed 16th after jumping a mark of 37 feet, 6.5 inches. Competing as the sole Ute in the mile run, freshman Amanda Gehrich finished the race in 21st place with a time of 4:49.52. In the 400-meter dash, junior Grace Englund led Utah with a time of 57.31 seconds to earn 29th place. Junior Mesa Weidle placed 37th after finishing in a time of 58.76 seconds, while freshman Brooke Martin recorded a time of 59.95 seconds to place 44th. Utah closed out competition at the MPSF Championships with the 4x400 meter relay. The relay team consisting of Weidle, Martin, Newton, and Faust, finished in 12th place with a time of 3:51.11. |
