Senior Alyssa Abbot won the conference 1,500-meter title to help the University of Utah track & field team place sixth with 70.50 points on the final day of the 2010 Mountain West Conference Championships Outdoor Track & Field Championships Alyssa Abbott won the 1,500-meter title by almost two seconds with a time of 4:29.98 to finish ahead of BYU's Katie Palmer-Cox. Abbott also added a seventh-place performance in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 17:54.58. Chelsey Kaplar finished as the runner-up in the 400-meter hurdle final with a lifetime-best time of 59.89 and the first time she had ever broken 60 seconds in her career. Utah's 4x400-meter relay placed third, crossing the finish line in 3:42.41. Angie Kaplar took fifth in the final heat of the 100-meter hurdles at a time of 14.17 against a 0.3 meter-per-hour wind. Sophomore Langley Iverson established a new personal best and finished third in the high jump at 5-10.5 (1.76m) on her second-to-last jump of the competition. Brianna LeRoy followed in a seventh-place tie with a personal-best effort of 5-6 (1.68m). In the final race of the 800-meter run, Lucy Yates ranked fourth after posting a personal-best time of 2:08.12. Freshman Nikkie Rudder was the fifth-place finisher in the shot put, putting together a personal-record mark of 46-7.25 (14.20m). Breanna Freestone took sixth in the javelin with a season-best performance of 132-3 (40.32m). The Utes' 4x100-meter relay of Natalie Young, Whitney Wellington, Lauryn McKay and Delaney Fox took seventh with a time of 46.64. Utah's freshman duo of McKay and Ashley Mosley took seventh and eighth place in the final heat of the 400-meter dash, respectively. McKay was seventh at personal-best time of 55.79, followed by Mosley's lifetime-best pace of 55.80. |
