In the 1500m run, sophomore Lucy Yates set a new personal best of 4:31.07 in route to a second place finish behind Arizona's Christina Rodgers (4:30.62). Freshmen Jenny McCune and Megan Combe also set new personal bests in the race. McCune crossed the line in 4:51.99 (13th) and Combe had a time of 4:53.22 (14th). In the 200m dash, freshman Alyssa Johnson had a sixth place finish with a time of 25.33. Freshman Natalie Young and senior Whitney Wellington were the next Utes across the line finishing eighth (25.57) and ninth (25.83), respectively. Senior Chelsey Kaplar had a good opening day in the 400m hurdles, finishing second overall with a time of 1:03.03 behind Arizona's Georganne Moline (1:00.72). Grimm, the reigning Mountain West Conference Champion in the hammer throw, won the hammer throw outright with a toss of 193-4 (58.94m). Freshman Annali Stahl earned second place in the event after a mark of 175-7 (53.51m). In the shot put, freshman Nikkie Rudder earned fourth place overall after a toss of 44-0.75 (13.43m). Sophomore Brianna LeRoy set a new personal best in the event with a mark of 33-1 (10.08m) to earn ninth place in the event. LeRoy also competed in the long jump, finishing fourth overall after a mark of 17-6.75 (5.35m). Sophomore Langley Iverson won the high jump and Amanda Mergaert won the 800m run. Iverson had a good showing in her opening meet with a 5-7 (1.70m) clearance to win the event outright. In the pole vault, freshman Theresa Waybright earned second place after clearing 11-11.25 (3.64m). On the track, Mergaert and junior Alyssa Abbott took control in the 800m run. Mergaert edged ahead in the final leg of the race to finish first overall with a new personal best of 2:10.28. Abbott missed her personal best time by one second, finishing second overall with a time of 2:10.30. The 4x400m relay, comprised of Lauryn McKay, Chelsey Kaplar, Lucy Yates and Alyssa Johnson, finished fourth overall on Saturday with a combined time of 3:47.24. |
