Description This thesis project observes communication processes within and between activity systems in a large facilities management organization during a period of strategic change implementations. Twenty-seven interviews with employees from various divisions were analyzed using the constant comparative approach. Findings were informed by emergent themes in terms of important concepts in structurating activity theory. This approach aimed to help understand activity coordination and knowledge construction within and between systems. Contradictions were explicated pertaining to inclusivity and exclusivity. Tensions persist in how systems coordinate around and with conflicting objectives and activities. Practical suggestions and theoretical contributions are discussed.
