Description | A black off-center cross on a white background comprised the mental image. This was the essence of crucifixiom: (the cross, a symbol of Christ; black, the symbol of death. The first panel started as an asymetrical cross construction in bla.ck. Gradually I introduced forms suggesting subject matter: a head, thorax" belly thighs and arms. Pink was the first hint 01' color. The ragged stroke, dripped paint, and bold lines were essential in dep1ctiag the residue of torment. |
