Description |
The Ogden City and County Building erected in 1888 had a tall tower which contained a clock and a bell. The clock had four faces and struck the hour and the bell was rung by pulling a long rope attached to it. In 1940, when the old hall had to be torn down and replaced by the new City and County Building, the bell was given to Weber College and the Standard Examiner commented: "Since the muddy street and hoopskirt days of 1889, Ogdenites have craned their necks to the lofty tower of the City Hall building to learn the time of day. Removal of the clock this year will cause a few tugs at the heart strings of early residents as they realize progress had made another move to destroy revered landmarks."--Ogden Pioneer Days, 1965. |
