The event, held in recognition of National OR Nurses Week, featured hands-on activities and tours of the hospital's operating rooms. Holiday Craft Fair Thursday and Friday The hospital's annual Craft Fair will be held in the Moran Eye Center's first- floor auditorium this Thursday, from 9 a. m.- 5 p. m., and Friday, from 9 a. m.- 3 p. m. The fair will feature handmade crafts and free holiday goodies. Employee Open Forum Dec. 6 All hospital employees are invited to attend an open forum on Monday, Dec. 6 at 8 a. m., noon and 3 p. m. in Classroom C. Hospital administrators Rick Fullmer, Madeline Buelt, Dan Lundergan, Gene Corapi and Mike Openshaw will answer employee questions and provide updates on various issues affecting the hospital. O PRINTED ON RECYCLED PAPER Utah Poison Control Center Receives Five- year Re- accreditation The Utah Poison Control Center's ( UPCC) accreditation has been extended for five years, accord-ing to Barbara Insley Crouch, Pharm. D., MSPH, center director. Approximately 50 of the 75 poison centers in the United States are certified and meet standards of excellence established by the American Association of Poison Control Centers ( AAPCC) and endorsed by the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American College of Emergency Physicians. Each center is formally reviewed every five years. At the recent annual meeting of AAPCC, the Utah Poison Control Center staff went before the re-certification committee to answer questions. Established in 1971, the center is a 24- hour resource for poison information, clinical toxicology consultation and poison prevention intervention. It is a program of the University of Utah College of Phar-macy and a cooperative public service of the Utah State Department of Health and the University of Utah Health Sciences Center. At the annual meeting, E. Martin Caravati, M. D., M. P. H., associate medical director of the UPCC, began his three- year term as a member of the AAPCC board of directors. Caravati is board- certified in the subspe-cialty of medical toxicology. On the Waiting List for a Permit? Contact Parking Services This Week Employees who are on the waiting list for a reserved " R" or terrace " T" parking permit are encouraged to call the U's Parking and Transportation Services office, xl- 6415. The opening of the Huntsman Cancer Institute parking terrace has made more " R" and " T" parking permits available, but parking officials say they have had a difficult time reaching employees on the waiting list. Outpatient Pharmacy Holiday Hours The hospital's outpatient pharmacy will be open from 8 a. m.- 3: 30 p. m. on Dec. 24 and Dec. 31. Neuro Critical Care Unit June 2, 1966- Nov. 11, 1999 Great American Smokeout, UH Style Renee Neuharth, R. N., Madsen Preventive Cardiology, provides Art Talamante and Norma Jones, Environmental and Linen Services, with information about the dangers of smoking at the Great American Smokeout booth in the cafeteria. Art says he has been smoke- free for six months and challenges other employees to give up their cigarettes. Employee Recognized for EMS Assistance Ellie Finch, R. N., nurse manager, Wasatch Internal Medicine ( left), and Tom Miller, M. D., associate professor of internal medicine, present Jennifer Robison, L. P. N., with a gift certificate recognizing her for assisting Sandy City police and fire departments at a recent traffic accident. According to Sam Dawson, Sandy City police chief Robison " showed professionalism and control in a very stressful and hectic situation." Holiday Social Scheduled Dec. 16 The hospital's Holiday Social is scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 16 from 2- 4 p. m. and 10- 11 p. m. The event will feature appetizers, desserts and sparkling cider. ' Home For The Holidays' CD on Sale Proceeds from the new CD " Home For The Holidays" will benefit University Home Care, according to James Marsden, the department's coordinator of contracts and marketing. The CD includes music from local artists Thurl Bailey, Kurt Bestor, Michael Dowdle, Voice Male, Michael Webb, Kenneth Cope and two songs composed by Utah Senator Orrin Hatch. The $ 9.98 CD is available at the hospital's gift shop, U of U Bookstore, Media Play, Hastings, Borders and Deseret Book. University Home Care will receive $ 6 for every CD sold.
