Description |
Manhunt for Raphael Lopez after he shot and killed fellow strikebreaker Juan Valdez on 21 November 1913 at Bingham Canyon. While on the run, Lopez killed pursuers Bingham Police Chief J. W. Grant and Nephi Jensen Mining town of Bingham. The extensive search for Lopez was called off on 4 January 1914 and he was never discovered. Lester Farnsworth is fifth form left. |
Comment |
Gold, silver, lead, and then copper were mined in Bingham. General Patrick Conner's men from Fort Douglas actually staked the first claim in the canyon. At its peak, Bingham was seven miles long but less than a city block wide. The town was unincorporated in 1971 and demolished to make way for further mining development. |
