Description First South Street, Salt Lake City, between Main and State Streets in the early days. Mule car tracks are being laid. The foremost building in the picture will readily be recognized as the Salt Lake Theatre. Just east, across the street, is the St. Mark's School. The business row extending west from the Theatre included, among other points of interest, Samuel George Reed's magazine and newspaper store, known as the London News Depot; "Brown's Confectionary," noted for its wedding cakes; C. Sproat's tailor shop; Mrs. Madsen's Millinery Shop; John R. Clawson's ice cream saloon and other establishments. On the south side of the street were several drink emporiums and Phillips Stationers. The City Hall is seen in the background.
