Description |
In 1910, a small monument (12) showed where the women and children were killed, and those in the wagons slain. Rogers says bodies were found 2500 yards northerly from the spring, close to which the present monument (1) stands. Monument 12 is now all gone, as shown by the next photo. 5. Massacre Hill from this great distance. Higbee could see from its top the wagons enter the ambush of Indians, and he then gave the signal "Halt! Do your duty." In 1857, this ground, now 'dry farmed' and on which a low growth of sage has come up, was then thickly covered with small cedars and brush, which has now all disappeared. 7. The trees at the Lytel Ranch. |
