Description |
A one-room log church and school building was built about 1881 at approximately 54 West Main after the fort was built. When the Uintah Stake was organized in 1887, a stake house of sawed logs, weather-boarded on the outside and painted white, was built in the same block, at about 56 West Main, for church and school purposes. It contained a pulpit and stage and housed many social activities. All stake meetings were held at the stake house along with weekly church meetings. At the turn of the century, a new stake house and tithing office was built on the southeast corner of 100 West and 100 South. At that time, the little stake house was deeded to Vernal 1st Ward. |
