Description |
Unidentified woman and child sitting on the stairs of the Rock LDS Tithing Office on North Vernal Avenue. The Uintah Stake of the L.D.S. church constructed this building in 1887. The ground was contributed by Jeremiah Hatch Jr. for $1.00. Men hauled rock from which Harley Mowery and John Jacob Slaugh, experienced stone masons, constructed this office. The building was laid out by the North Star. The office is surrounded by outbuildings, barns and granaries that were used for storage of tithing that was paid in-kind. This photo was taken before the Uintah Freight building was constructed. The early Rock Tithing building is now the front part of the Uintah Daughter of Utah Pioneer building on 500 W. 200 S. |
