Church--Catholic--Vernal, Utah |
Description |
Ground breaking ceremonies for the new St. John's Catholic Church were held on 2 July 1947. The building, a semi-basement type structure of 35 ft wide and 71 ft. long with a seating capacity of 200 has an appropriate front and pitched roof. It will also have a full basement with the church above. The architect is John K. Monroe of Denver Colorado. They hoped to have the building complete by November of 1947. Because of several delays in the construction the dedication of the church building took place on 25 May 1950. In 1947 the church's name was St. John's Catholic Church and by 1950 the name had changed to St. James Catholic Church. South of the Catholic Church, the parking lot was flooded and the water was allowed to freeze, turning the lot into and ice skating pond that was enjoyed by the young people of the town. |
