Description |
First adobe house in Utah, located within the stone walls of the Deseret News premises facing South Temple. The cut is from a photograph owned by Spencer Clawson. The structure was built of adobes by President Brigham Young in the fall of 1848. In it, some of his children were bron, among them: Mrs. Mira Y. Rossiter, Mrs. Eva Y. Davis, Alfales Young - telegraph editor of the Deseret News, Ernest I. Young, and it is also believed that it was the birthplace of Mrs. Fanny Y. Thatcher. When the Lion House was completed and the house was vacated by President Young in 1855, one of the families of President Daniel H. Wells moved into it. Here Heber M. Wells, the first governor of Utah, was born. |
