Description |
These photographs were taken for the 1944-1945 edition of the Uintah High School Yearbook. They are located on page 64. All the photos on this page are of the V-E Day Parade on Main Street in Vernal, Utah. They were all taken of the main center intersection. NOTE: V-E day was "Victory in Europe Day" on May 8, 1945, which celebrated Nazi Germany's unconditional surrender to the allies and the resulting end of World War II. In Vernal, those marching in the parade were The American Legion color guard, the Uintah High School Girls' Pep Club, the Senior Band, and the entire high school student body. The photograph in the upper left corner shows a long view of the parade from above the street. The Conoco business sign is visible on the left side of the street. The J.C. Penny is the first building across the street. There are automobiles parked along the street and citizens gathered to watch the parade. The photograph in the center left side of the page is a long view of Vernal's Main Street from the ground level. There is an automobile parked to the left, and some parked across the street in front of the businesses to the left of the J.C. Penny store. Down the center of the street are marching people. The photograph in the bottom left corner of the page was taken at street level and is of unidentified girls marching down the street carrying flags. The girl marching closest to the camera is carrying a large American flag that looks as tall as her. Across the street, the J.C. Penny store is visible. The photograph in the top right corner of the page was taken above street level, and is of automobiles and citizens gathered on both sides of main street. The band is playing in the street to the left. The marchers with the flags are to the right; the American flags are at the front. The J.C. Penny store is visible across the street. The photograph in the center right of the page was taken right down the center of the street. The marchers with the American flags at the front are coming straight toward the camera. Automobiles and citizens line both sides of the street. The Bank of Vernal is just visible on the left side of the street. The J.C. Penny store is just visible on the right side of the street. The photograph in the bottom right corner of the page was taken from behind the citizen parade goers. The unidentified girls marching with flags are facing that side of the street. The girls holding American flags are at the front. The J.C. Penny store is clearly visible across the street. |
