We are all part of the human condition that I describe as being human in a social, cultural, and personal context. To be part of this plays a part in shaping who we are. Often times we are not aware of, or have forgotten situations in our lives that have shaped us. In SIMPLE STUFF... ? I use cliches, satire, the banal and absurd, humor, discomfort and odd juxtaposition as content to bring about situations I have experienced involving the human condition; with the hope that the viewer can personally relate or that it may trigger an experience they have forgotten or never realized they noticed. My content is communicated through large scale paintings and small screen prints. My works are rendered with minimalistic figures and objects with the hope to capture content as opposed to representational painting and printing technique. Working with the content above and a minimalistic strategy I am able to keep ideas flowing onto a surface, continually providing new information on why I am the way I am, my place in the world and how I am involved in the society. It is my hope the viewers will see these images and have a recollection of a similar experience and will help them to better understand their role in the social and cultural world they are part of. |
