Show UNITED STATES INDIAN FIELD SERVICE Blanding, Utah, May 3, 1923 Commissioner of Indian Affairs, Washington, D. C. Sir: In order to describe the individual allotments made on unsurveyed lands in Allen Canyon and Cottonwood Creek a lot of surveying will be necessary. The country is very rough and full of canyons, covered with dense scrub juniper and pinon. It will be necessary to employ three assistants. These men I beleive can be secured locally at $80.00 per month. The work in this vicinity will require approximately two months. As Allen Canyon can only be reached by saddle horse, it will be necessary to hire saddle horses and pack animals. Authority is requested to engage three assistants at the monthly rate of $80.00 and to expend for hire of horses $50.00 during the months of May and June. It is requested that I be instructed as to the method of paying the salaries of the assistants. Can they be paid on personal service vouchers? Should the hire of horses be paid from personal funds and included as travelling expenses. As I will have so much field work, making surveys and other duties I would prefer not to add to my accounting work as would be the case if a pay roll should be established. I have sufficient funds on hand to cover. Respectfully, A.W. Simington Special Allotting Agent |
