The distance medley relay featured all four members clocking lifetime-best splits. Senior Alyssa Abbott led off the race and finished the 1200m split with a time of 3:24.5. Lauryn McKay took the baton for the second leg and posted a 400m split time of 54.5 seconds. With the Utes near the front of the pack, senior Lucy Yates took the baton and finished the 800m with a time of 2:06.98. Amanda Mergaert ran the final 1600m of the relay clocking a time of 4:39, capturing third place overall for the Utes. The relay had a combined time of 11:05.78, which is a new school record. The overall winner of the event was Nebraska with a time of 10:58.74 followed by Notre Dame (11:04.45). One day after breaking the school record, the four members of the Utah distance medley relay fell short of qualifying for the NCAA Championships in individual events potentially marking the end to the indoor season. Opening up the day for the Utes, was junior Lauryn McKay in the 400m. McKay set the tone early posting the second-best performance of her career with 56.55 seconds capturing 11th place. McKay's time earns her the fifth-best performance in school history. Running in the second event for Utes was senior Lucy Yates. In the 800m, Yates clocked a time of 2:16.16 finishing 25th overall. Junior Amanda Mergaert led the team in the mile finishing 12th place. Mergaert recorded her second best time of the year at 4:44.27. Also competing in the mile was senior Alyssa Abbott. In the final race of her collegiate career, Abbott set a career-best time of 4:49.69 securing 21st place. Abbott's performance is the second-best time in school history. |
