Sophomore Angela Kaplar caught the spotlight for the Utes with her record time in the 100m hurdles. In the 100m hurdle event, Kaplar clocked a school-record time of 13.83 beating her previous record time of 13.90. Kaplar's performance earned first place in the event. Junior Brianna LeRoy also competed in the hurdles and finished fifth place with a time of 14.42. Lucy Yates competed in the 400m race and finished fourth overall with a time of 56.66. Sophomore Lauryn McKay completed the race in a time of 56.91, which earned her fifth place. The Utah throwers had a big day as they claimed the top four spots in the women's shot put. Alanna Nulph competed unattached and finished first overall with a mark of 46-7.50. Nikkie Rudder (45-5.75), Candus Aiello (44-0.25), and Destanae Howerton-Davis (43-9.50) placed second, third and fourth in the event. In the discus throw, Aiello led the way with a throw of 143-4.50 for third place. Howerton-Davis finished fifth with a toss of 132-10.50 and Rudder had a mark of 131-02 (seventh place). Theresa Waybright performed well in the pole vault competition. Waybright finished second overall clearing the mark of 11-3.75. In the javelin, LeRoy had a throw of 117-4.75, which earned her second place. Freshman Samantha Eddy completed the event with a mark of 106-0.50 for fourth place. In the 3,000m Steeple Chase, freshman Alexis Laws clocked a time of 11:31.41 for second place. Sophomore Hilary Troutner and freshman Katelyn Stringfellow competed in the 5,000m for the Utes. Troutner finished third overall with a time of 18:49.23 and Stringfellow posted a time of 19:02.61 for fourth place. Utah distance athletes Amanda Mergaert and Alyssa Abbott represented the Utes at the Brutus Hamilton Invitational in Berkeley, Calif. In the 800m, Mergaert clocked a new personal-record time of 2:07.38, which earned her first place. Abbott competed in the 1500m and finished third with a time of 4:23.83, which was .40 seconds shy of her personal best. |
