Description The purpose of this study was to explore the relation between primary grade teacher' knowledge of reading instruction and a variety of educational, demographic, motivational, and self-perception variables. The sample for this study was comprised of 388 first, second, and third grade teachers. Data were obtained through the use of two different measures. The first measure used was the Literacy Instruction Knowledge Scales (LIKS). LIKS is a 78-item multiple choice written survey designed to measure primary grade teachers' content and pedagogical content knowledge of literacy. The second measure, the Teacher Demographic Information Survey (TDIS), is a 25-tem multiple choice written survey that was used to collect data on a variety of variables, such as, but not limited to age, gender, years of teaching experience, and level of educational attainment. Results of a series of independent t-tests, one-way ANOVAs, and multiple regression analyses revalued significant associations between teacher' knowledge of literacy and certain educational, demographic, motivational, and self-perception variables and teachers' knowledge of literacy.
