The aim of this paper is to underline the importance of a national identity and its fluidity within the context of China and Taiwan. In addition, the paper analyzes the change and development of a Chinese and Taiwanese identity as well as provides reasoning and depth to the complex identities and its conflicts with each other. Both identities are explored through a theoretical framework as well as through a historical timeline to gain a deeper insight to the development of the chinese and Taiwanese identities. The clash of identities is examined through historical context as well as though personal interviews. Overall, this paper examines how the Chinese and Taiwanese identity is ever-changing, and how influential identity is within foreign policy making and within the realm of international relations. |
