Title Foveal Sparing - An Artefact?
Creator Trauzettel-Klosinski, Susan; Reinhard, Jens
Subject foveal sparing; hemianopia; scanning laser opthalmoscope
Description We have shown in a former study that macular sparing really exists and is a cortical phenomenon. However, studies on foveal sparing are still contradictory. Morphological investigations in the primate retina showeda nasotemporal overlap of retinal ganglion cells of 0.5 degrees to each side of the vertical meridian, widening to 1.5 degrees in the fovea, which was interpreted as foveal sparing. This result was not in agreement with the common clinical finding of macular splitting.
