Subject |
Murray Historic Registry |
Description |
The house was built by J. R. Miller, brother of the first Mayor of Murray. After he married in 1859, James built a log cabin & adjoined another five room adobe home with a full basement, or cellar in 1865. James homesteaded 160 acres as allowed by the government . In 1882, the log cabin was torn down and a two story eight room brick home to accommodate his eight children. James was a partner with his father for many years in a threshing machine business and later purchased a flour mill built by Archibald Gardner, his wife's father. When the Lake Pines Apartments were built, a mill stone from James' Pioneer Mill #6 was found in the lake and is now displayed near the home. |
