Collection Overview +/-
Collection Inventory +/-Content Description +/-This collection contains 3 directories entitled To you from me : women's career resource directory, published biannually in 1985, 1987, and 1989 by the Women's Career Exploration Program of Westminster College of Salt Lake City. Each of the directories is organized the same, with acknowledgements, table of contents, forwards, and the individual entries. The individual directory entries are alphabetically arranged by career type and thereunder by the women's names. Each entry includes the name, position and organization, mailing address, and telephone number. The first edition, published in 1985, is sixty-four pages in length and is described as containing entries of "over 600 women." A section for "Using This Directory" indicates it was printed for "career counselors, teachers, parents, all who are involved in career exploration programs and agencies by women themselves who are searching" for information on careers. The directory was intended to help them identify Utah women with nontraditional occupations who could be reached for "panels, career day, visiting classes, job shadowing," and other similar activities. The second edition, published in 1987, is fifty-three pages in length and is again described as containing entries of "over 600 women." Its forward is signed by Westminster College President Dr. Charles H. Dick, who suggested the directory was in response to a June 1984 Governor's Task Force Report on Integrating Women into the Work Force. Its acknowledgment, written by Julia J. Kleinschmidt, director of the Westminster College Women's Career Exploration Program, describes the success of the first edition and thanks the Utah State Office for Vocational Education, other project supporters, and the women listed in the directory. The third edition, published in 1989, is shorter with forty-one pages. It is described as containing fewer entries - "over 400 women." Its acknowledgment essentially repeats the 1987 version but acknowledges Julia Kleinschmist and is written by Susan D. Heath, Associate Dean of Students, in June 1989. The file also contains a form letter from Dean Heath dated November 1, 1989. The letter explains that while the directory was published for the use of women's organizations, individuals could purchase copies from Westminster College and provided instructions for the process. The letter also indicates intentions for a fourth edition that would be published between 1990-1991. No fourth edition was published, according to Dr. Kleinschmidt, due to depleted grant funding for the program. Collection Use +/-Restrictions on Access: Open to public research.
