Content Description +/-This collection contains the subject files of Frank E. Duddy, Jr., 7th president of Westminster College (Salt Lake City, Utah) who served from 1956-1963. The materials consist of announcements, brochures, correspondence, mailing lists, programs, reports, speeches, and travel reimbursements organized into 13 subject categories. Many of the records concern Mr. Duddy's acceptance and inauguration as president of Westminster College. Acceptance correspondence consists of outgoing correspondence offering Mr. Duddy the position of president of Westminster College. Baccalaureate correspondence contains letters relating to the speakers for the baccalaureate held prior to Dr. Duddy's inauguration, while the Baccalaureate programs contains programs listing the participants and activities in the baccalaureate and processional. Biographical information includes a biography of Frank E. Duddy, Jr. and his personal history statement. Inauguration announcements and speeches contains the texts of the announcements and speeches presented at Mr. Duddy's inauguration (including Mr. Duddy's father, Frank Sr.). Inauguration correspondence contains outgoing and incoming correspondence concerning possible inauguration speakers, including President Dwight D. Eisenhower and former President Herbert Hoover, who were both unable to participate. There are signed letters of endorsement for having Eisenhower as speaker sent from Ezra Taft Benson (U.S. Secretary of Agriculture), Arthur V. Watkins (U.S. Senator from Utah), and Wallace F. Bennett (U.S. Senator from Utah). There is a typed letter dated March 30, 1957, on Key Largo Anglers Club, Key Largo, Florida stationery, signed by Herbert Hoover, giving his regrets that he is unable to attend the inauguration of President Duddy. Inauguration programs contains programs listing the participants and activities for the inauguration while Inauguration invitations contains copies of official invitations. Mailing lists contains a mailing list of district directors of [corporate] public relations. Newspaper articles consists of local newspaper clippings reporting on the selection of Mr. Duddy as president of Westminster College and his inauguration. Reports contains a report to College's board of Trustees (1959) and an "Announcement at the All College Assembly of 20 December 1961" in which he announced that because of the difficulty of an affiliation with an intercollegiate athletic conference. Westminster College would not be playing intercollegiate football. Travel reimbursements contains itemized costs of trips taken by President Duddy. Post-presidential correspondence contains letters written to and from Dr. Emil Nyman, the Westminster College archivist. Collection Use +/-Restrictions on Access: Open to public research.
